Project Bridge Youth Ambassador 30th Anniversary Celebration

Media

Come join us to celebrate the longest running education Program offered at the Society, the Project Bridge Youth Ambassador Project Program.

The Program began in 1993 as a response to Sa-I-Gu—when growing unrest between the African American and Korean American communities triggered widespread destruction in LA's Koreatown in the wake of the 1992 Rodney King incident and subsequent LA riots. The goal of the Program, at that time known as Kids to Korea, was to have inner city youth in New York and Los Angeles gain a better understanding of, appreciation for and engagement with the Korean community.

The Program has evolved over the years. While a ten-day study tour continues to be a highlight, youth ambassadors also engage in academic year-long workshops to learn about the Program’s roots as well as Korean history, culture, and the importance of the US-Korea alliance.

At this celebration you will hear from individuals who launched the initiative as well as Project Bridge alumni. A special video showcasing highlights from the past 30 years reinforces their remarks. Further, our current youth ambassadors, who represent a range of NYC public high schools, share insights on what they have learned and experienced this year.

A reception follows the discussion. Hope to see you there!
