We are delighted to invite you to our Annual Membership Party on Wednesday, February 7th at 6:30 PM (EST). Join us in honoring The Korea Society’s valued members with the start of the 2024 Lunar New Year! The event will take place at The Korea Society, located at 350 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10017.

The Membership Party is one of our highlight annual events, through which The Society seeks to express its gratitude for the generous support of our members throughout the year. The gathering promises a vibrant atmosphere filled with Korean food and drinks, entertainment, gifts, and meaningful conversation.

PERFORMANCE

Hailey Quartet joins Hee Jung Han, a traditional musician of Haegum (a Korean two-stringed fiddle played with a bow), to present a fusion of exotic jazz and Korean traditional music. The best of Korean hageum meets the best of exotic jazz to create harmonies never before heard anywhere else. They will perform “Onara Onara,” the OST of the globally recognized K-drama "Dae Jang Geum,” and standard jazz songs "Fly me to the moon" and "You are my Sunshine,” which are the most beloved jazz songs amongst Koreans. Additionally, they will perform BLACKPINK member Jisoo's recent single "Flower” in their own unique style.


About Performers

 
Haegum - Hee Jung Han
Haegum player, Hee Jung Han had performed as a principal member of the two traditional orchestras in Korea, the Youth Korean Traditional Music Orchestra and Seoul Traditional Music Orchestra. She graduated from Chu-Gye University of Art, completing B.A. and M.A. where she achieved the traditional academic training and further developed her artistic talent. She was selected as the NYFA/NYSCA Fellowship for two years in a row and is dedicated to promoting Korea to multi-ethnic people through recordings and concerts with Grant was supported by the New York Arts Foundation and the New York State of Council.
 
 
Piano/Vocal - Hailey Hyerim Yu
Hailey Hyerim Yu is a singer songwriter, performer, music director and educator. She graduated NYU, Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and has been working as a music director, EnoB, NY since 2016. She released two of her own EP albums and seven single albums and participated as a composer, vocalist for many other musicians' albums. The Children’s Sound book “Jesus loves me” that she worked as a music director/arranger received Illumination Book Award and Mom’s Choice Awards. She recently appeared as an arranger of the song “Being Happy” for the one of the most popular TV programs in South Korea, “Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend(불후의 명곡)”.
 
 
Guitar - Jae young Jeong
Jae young Jeong is a guitarist, composer, and educator. He graduated Berklee College of Music and master’s program in Jazz Studies at NYU Steinhardt. Jeong released his first recording called ‘Deep Sea’ in 2018. He performed in Carnegie Hall, Ovation Hall (NJ), Cornelia Street Cafe, Berklee Performance Center (MA) and many others.
 
 
Bass - Jeong Hwan Park
Jeong Hwan Park a bassist, composer, and educator based in New York City. He graduated from The New School and New York University Steinhardt Jazz Studies. Jeong has performed at Jazz festival in Ecuador in 2017 as a member of Koyari led by Ecuadorian guitarist Luis Castro, and Sebastian Acosta Quintet in 2018. In 2019, he released his debut album, Sound of Bronze.
 
 
Drums - Eric Dupont
Eric Dupont was born and raised in New Hampshire, receiving his first drum set at the age of 12. Now based in the New York area, he is a 2016 graduate of William Paterson University majoring in Jazz Studies & Music management.
