ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Wansoo Suh A NYC based conference interpreter/translator with over 25 years of experience in Korean-English and English-Korean practice. Wansoo Suh has covered various fields including international relations, IT, finance, intellectual property rights, and the arts, and has worked closely with global companies, governments, educational institutes, and the media industry. Her clients have included the United Nations, Apple, Dell, KEPCO, Citibank, Samsung, international law firms, the Guggenheim Museum, as well as The Korea Society with their recent interview with Dr. Kim Woo Joo on the COVID-19 pandemic. Wansoo received a Master’s Degree in Interpretation and Translation from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, studied at the Graduate School of Film Studies at Dongguk University, and has a Bachelor’s Degree from Ewha Women’s University. She was a full-time lecturer at the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at Ewha Women’s University, and also taught at Hankook University of Foreign Studies(HUFS) at the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation and the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security of Korea. She was the official interpreter for the Pusan International Film Festival, an English announcer for the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, and received the Presidential Citation from the Republic of Korea.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR

Janet Cushey is a project and event manager at Argot Partners and has operated her own small English tutoring and Korean-to-English translation service, Patch English, since 2016. Her main interests are Korean language, international cultural exchange, and Korean music and media. She moved to New York City in 2014 and has been pursuing Korean language learning through the Korea Society’s Korean Language classes. Before moving to New York, she resided in Seoul where she taught English at an after-school academy and volunteered as a language tutor for North Korean refugees at Liberty in North Korea. Janet graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in East Asian Studies, focused on Korean Language and Cultural Studies. She spent one year of her undergraduate studies abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.
