Dinner and a movie-- it’s a classic combination. Join us to watch the 2010 Korean film The Recipe (된장), which follows a television producer searching for the chef and recipe of a soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae), while dining on doenjang jjigae! We’ll also demonstrate how to prepare the stew, so you can make this Korean comfort food throughout the cold winter.
The Dinner
Doenjang jjigae is a staple meal in Korean homes. The earthy flavor of soybean paste is fused with hearty vegetables like Korean radish and zucchini, and includes tofu. The taste of doenjang jjigae is dependent upon the quality of the soybean paste and the richness of the base broth.
Doenjang jjigae is being provided by Kunjip Restaurant.
The Movie
The Recipe is a 2010 South Korean film which mixes romance, a crime story, black comedy, and food to near-perfection. Directed by Anna Lee and starring Lee Dong-wook, Lee Yo-won, and Ryu Seung-ryong, the film is about a television producer who finds out many surprising truths while tracking down the recipe of a magical, mysterious soybean paste stew.
THE RECIPE will screen in Korean with English subtitles.
